Eighteen drivers not competing at the Calgary Stampede Rangeland Derby presented by Play Alberta converged on Teepee Creek, Alberta, for one of chuckwagon racing’s longest-running events—the Teepee Creek Stampede. Lane Tournier entered this year’s competition as the defending champion, but on opening night it was his father, Luke Tournier, who stole the spotlight.
Fast times were the story of the evening, and when the dust settled, Luke Tournier, driving the Dynamic Energy Group Ltd. outfit, captured the Kirk’s Trail Tire Wheels on Fire Fast Time of the Night with an outstanding run of 0:56.13.
Coming off Barrel No. 2 in the fifth heat, Tournier posted the fastest time of the night by an impressive 1.65 seconds over former Teepee Creek Stampede champion Cody Ridsdale. D.J. DeSutter finished third, while Dale Young and Doug Vandergrift rounded out the top five.

The 2026 Teepee Creek Stampede champion will be determined by the best three-day aggregate time. Competition continues through Sunday, July 12, 2026.
