The World Professional Chuckwagon Association has been saddened by the sudden passing of longtime active supporter Randy Cripps on Saturday, October 7, 2023 from a massive heart attack at the age of 78.
As a true fan of rodeo and chuckwagon racing, Randy first got involved as a canvas sponsor at his hometown Medicine Hat Stampede in 2007 with two chuckwagon drivers – David and Chance Bensmiller – under the canvas of Randy’s oilfield consulting company – Bushape Supervision. Over the next 10 seasons, Randy not only put his support behind chuckwagon drivers at a number of shows on the WPCA Pro Tour, but put a lot of support behind chuckwagon racing as a whole.
Between 2007 and 2017, Randy and Bushape Supervision put their support behind chuckwagon drivers David Bensmiller, Chance Bensmiller and Mark Sutherland as a canvas sponsor. For six consecutive years between 2012 and 2017, Randy was the sponsor of the trophy buckle given to the World Champion Outrider, presenting the championship buckle to the likes of Chad Fike, Chad Cosgrave, Chance Flad and Casey Knight. For over twenty years, Randy made an annual trip south to Cheyenne, Wyoming to take in the Cheyenne Frontier Days. When he couldn’t be at the chuckwagon races, Randy was an avid listener to the radio broadcasts of the WPCA Pro Tour.
Randy is survived by his Common-Law Wife Dot Page of Eastend, SK: his son Bob Cripps of Fox Creek, AB: his daughter Lorna (Will) Merrick of Redcliff, AB: his granddaughter Katrina Cripps of Medicine Hat, AB: his great-grandchildren Alistair, Kendall, Teagan and Colin Randall.
He was predeceased by his mother in 2006 and his father in 2011.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Eastend Memorial Hall Tea Room, 135 Oak Ave. North, Eastend, Saskatchewan on Saturday, October 28, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. Funeral arrangements by Binkley’s Funeral Service (Shaunavon), 206 Centre Street, Shaunavon, Saskatchewan, Phone: (306) 297-2412, www.binkleys.com.
