Codey McCurrach – Fast Run On Night 4 In Calgary

Despite some pre race rain, racetrack conditions were very good, and some tremendous chuckwagon races were run off on night 4 of the Cowboys Rangeland Derby at the Calgary Stampede. On the night it was “The Hound” Codey McCurrach who topped everyone with the fast run of 1:11.12.
From barrel number 2 in the 6th heat, McCurrach, driving the Flynn Canada – Building Envelope was the top wagon on the night by 44 one-hundredths of a second margin over Rae Croteau Jr.. Kurt Bensmiller was third best on the night, with Chad Fike and Layne MacGillivray rounding out the top five on the night. It’s the first time since 2015 that McCurrach has won the day money at the Calgary Stampede.
Kurt Bensmiller and his Grey Eagle Resort & Casino Outfit now find themselves atop the overall aggregate standings with a four-run total of 4:46.00. That puts him 1.03 seconds ahead of Chanse Vigen with Obrey Motowylo holing strong onto third spot overall. Layne MacGillivray still occupies fourth spot overall, with Rae Croteau Jr. now moving up into fifth place overall.
The top 3 in the aggregate after Saturday, July 15, 2023, will go into the championship final heat. The winner of the championship final heat will be declared the 2023 Calgary Stampede Rangeland Derby Champion.
