Night 2 of the Calgary Stampede Rangeland Derby presented by Play Alberta ran on a warm Saturday night in Calgary. It was an extremely competitive night of racing, racetrack conditions were excellent, and the capacity crowd was treated to another outstanding night of chuckwagon racing. When the evening wrapped up, Obrey Motowylo, driving the Dynamic Energy Group Inc. outfit, posted the fast run of the night with a run of 1:12.30.
Coming off barrel number 2 in the 9th heat, Motowylo won the day money by just a single one-hundredth of a second over Chanse Vigen and Jamie Laboucane who split second place on the night. Defending champion Jason Glass had his second consecutive top five run, placing fourth on the night, while Rae Croteau Jr. completed the top five on the night.
Two second place runs in two nights has Chanse Vigen on top of the leaderboard in the overall aggregate standings with a two-day total of 2:24.56. That puts him 67 one-hundredths of a second ahead of Jamie Laboucane who has had two top three runs in two nights, with Jason Glass holding down third spot overall. Rae Croteau Jr. and day 1 winner Chad Fike are in 4th and 5th place respectively, both in close pursuit of a spot in the top three overall.
