In the exhilarating world of chuckwagon racing, few names resonate as powerfully as Dustin Gorst. The third-generation driver from Meadow Lake, Saskatchewan, has made significant strides in the sport, adding notable achievements to his already impressive resume. With a recent move to Wainwright, Alberta, and fresh equine talent in his stable, Gorst is gearing up for another thrilling season on the World Professional Chuckwagon Association (WPCA) tour, all while cherishing the legacy of his family that paved the way for his success.

Dustin Gorst has firmly established himself in the competitive arena of chuckwagon racing, with numerous accolades lining his career. His journey began as an outrider before he transitioned into driving, where he has excelled since. His career highlights include capturing the coveted North American Chuckwagon Championship in 2022, along with earlier victories such as the Battle of the Rockies in 2017. Recognized for his talent, he was named the WPCA Top Rookie Driver in 2015 and followed this up with the Clean Driver Award in 2016 and the Calgary Stampede’s Top Rookie Driver title in 2017.

Looking to the future, Gorst has expanded his team with new horses acquired from various locations, including two from Century Downs, four from West Virginia, two from Phoenix last spring, and one from Canterbury. “We’re always looking for that extra run,” Gorst shared, indicating his commitment to enhancing the performance of his team.

Reflecting on the challenges and triumphs of the 2025 season, Gorst acknowledged the ups and downs that come with the territory. “I’m always glad to be part of the WPCA tour and incredibly thankful for the great sponsors who support me. Their backing truly makes a difference,” he remarked.

As he prepares for spring training, Gorst’s recent move to Wainwright has proven beneficial. “The decision was based on location, both for chuckwagon driving and work-related reasons. The community in Wainwright has embraced my family, which makes the adjustment much smoother. Having access to his own track for spring training is invaluable,” he explained.

While the excitement of the upcoming season looms large, Gorst also takes a moment to reflect on personal loss. The passing of his grandfather, Art Gorst, has left a profound impact on him. “Grandpa loved chuckwagon racing. His hard work, along with my dad’s, set the foundation for who my brother Logan and I are today. We are now reaching the benefits of their dedication, and I carry their legacy with pride,” he shared, highlighting the intertwining of family, tradition, and sport.

As Dustin Gorst continues to forge his path in the world of chuckwagon racing, he embodies the spirit of determination and resilience. With a fresh team, a supportive community in Wainwright, and the memories of his family’s legacy driving him forward, Gorst is poised to tackle the upcoming WPCA season with enthusiasm and grit. Whether he’s racing down the track or reflecting on the past, one thing remains clear: Dustin Gorst is not just a driver; he is a testament to the power of family, hard work, and the relentless pursuit of excellence in one of Canada’s most exhilarating sports.
