ENERGY BUILDS FOR PONOKA TARP AUCTION

The 3rd and final tarp auction of the 2023 WPCA season is set for this Friday, May 5th at the Stagecoach Saloon located by the Ponoka Stampede grandstand in Ponoka, Alberta.  34 drivers and 2 wild card drivers will be up for bid and with the recent success witnessed at the first two auctions, curiosity has now surfaced among fans and many in the sport to see how the Ponoka Stampede Tarp Auction will shape up.

The first 2 tarp auctions in Grande Prairie and Century Downs combined for over $900,000.00 in bids. On April 1st at the Grande Prairie Stompede Tarp Auction, the final bid total was $514,650.00.  For the 2nd consecutive year, Rae Croteau JR topped the sale when Cinch Oilfield Hauling won the bidding competition with a final bid of $30,000.00.  Three weeks later at the Century Downs Racetrack and Casino World Finals Tarp Auction, $414,000.00 was the final bid total. Evan Magee topped the first ever Century Downs sale with a bid of $23,000.00 from Provincial Vodka.  

Historically, the Ponoka Stampede Tarp Auction has always produced great results with companies aiming to be the highest bidder for what is considered to be one of the most prestigious events in the sport of chuckwagon racing and chuckwagon racing history. In 2022, the bid total at the Ponoka Stampede Tarp Auction was $389,750,00 with WPCA drivers Kurt Bensmiller and Wade Salmond topping the sale with bids of $20,000.00 each.
