The finals of the North American Chuckwagon Championship in Lloydminster wrapped up on Saturday night featuring Jamie Laboucane, defending champion Logan Gorst, Dustin Gorst and Wade Salmond. In what was truly a thrilling chuckwagon race, Dustin Gorst, driving the Century Downs Racetrack and Casino Outfit, and along with outriders Quaid Tournier and Tyler DeSutter who emerged as the 2022 North American Chuckwagon Championship champions. For outrider Tyler DeSutter, it’s the first show win of his career.

In a photo finish in the $85,000.00 Championship Final Heat, Dustin Gorst posted the best time of 1:15.79 from off barrel 1 in the 8th heat and beat Wade Salmond from barrel number 2 by just 3 one-hundreths of a second. A hard charging Jamie Laboucane placed third from barrel 3, a mere 9 one-hundreths behind the champion Dustin Gorst, and Logan Gorst placed 4th from barrel position number 4, 40 one-hundreths of a second behind the winner. The North American Chuckwagon Championship has become a Gorst family affair, as Dustin’s older brother Logan won the inaugural event in 2021. Less than a tenth of a second separated the top 3 wagons in the championship final. Gorst collected $45,000.00 for the win.

As far as day results are concerned, Luke Tournier driving the Canoe Lake Cree First Nation outfit was fastest on the day with a run of 1:15.38, followed by Rae Croteau Jr., Chance Flad, Dustin Gorst, and Wade Salmond making out the top five on the day.
