Darcy Flad – Alberta Ag Centre Fast Time Of The Night On Opening Night In Rocky Mountain House

It was a drizzly day as day 1 as the WPCA World Chuckwagon Finals kicked off in Rocky Mountain House, Alberta. Four chuckwagon drivers – Jason Glass, Chanse Vigen, Evan Salmond and Obrey Motowylo – came into this year’s final event of the WPCA Pro Tour with a chance to emerge as the World Chuckwagon Champion for 2025. Racetrack conditions, albeit slower due to the rainy conditions, were quite good for opening night.
In the race for the World Chuckwagon Championship, four-time World Champion Jason Glass came into this year’s event with a small 4.5 point lead over the two-time and defending World Champion Chanse Vigen who is in search of a third consecutive World Chuckwagon Championship. After the completion of the first night of racing, Glass’ lead is now just 2.5 points over Vigen, with Evan Salmond and Obrey Motowylo 36.5 an 46.5 points respectively out of first place overall. The World Champion Chuckwagon Driver and the World Champion Outrider will both be declared on Saturday night as the ones who accumulate the most number of points over the course of the season.
Opening night saw Darcy Flad, driving the Ference Land & Cattle Corp. outfit take the Alberta AG Centre Fast Time Of The Night with a time of 1:17.16 from barrel position number two in the fourth heat Flad’s run was exactly a quarter-second aster than Lane Tournier who placed second, with Chanse Vigen, Wade Salmond and Jason Glass making out the top five runs on the night.
The top four drivers in the overall aggregate standings after Saturday night will go into the Championship Final Heat to declare the champion of the Battle of the Rockies Championship.
