Chanse Vigen – Another Day Money Run On Day 3 In High River

Sunny skies and a hot 30°C were the order of the day in High River, Alberta as day 3 of the Battle of Foothills was run on Sunday afternoon. When the day finished up, it was reigning Ponoka Stampede Champion Chanse Vigen, driving the Bow Slope Shipping Association outfit, who posted the fast time of the race meet so far with a run of 1:16.62.
From barrel number 1 in the 10th and final heat of the afternoon, Vigen placed first on the night by 9 tenths of a seconds over recently crowned Calgary Stampede Rangeland Derby Champion Layne MacGillivray. 2023 Dewberry World Chuckwagon Races Champion Chad Fike was third, Mitch Sutherland’s #2 wagon was fourth and Jamie Laboucane filled out the top five for the night.

After three runs, 2023 Medicine Hat Stampede Champion Jamie Laboucane and his Davco Industrial Construction Services outfit continue to lead the overall aggregate standings with a three-run total of 3:55.16. That gives him a comfortable 2.48 second lead over Chad Fike, with Kris Molle Jason Glass and Chanse Vigen in close pursuit. Wade Salmond, Evan Salmond and Dean Dreger make up the top 8 looking to qualify for a spot in next weekend’s Semi-Final Saturday. Kurt Bensmiller is on the outside looking in, but is just 73 one-hundredths of a second outside of eighth hole, with Chance Flad in tenth place overall, another 49 one-hundredths of a second behind Kurt Bensmiller.
The Battle of the Foothills will now break for four days before resuming on Friday night, July 28, 2023. The top 8 in the aggregate after next Friday’s run will go into the two semi-final round on Saturday night. The top 4 times from the semi-final round on July 29 will go into the Championship Final Heat where the winner will take home the 2023 Battle of the Foothills Championship.
