After ideal weather conditions greeted competitors on opening night of the Grande Prairie Stompede Championship in Grande Prairie, Alberta, night two was contested under partly cloudy skies and a comfortable 30°C. Once again, track conditions were excellent, setting the stage for some outstanding performances. When the dust settled, former Grande Prairie champion Chanse Vigen posted the fastest run of the evening with a blistering time of 1:14.68.

Competing out of barrel number one in the tenth heat, Vigen guided the Medallion Energy Services/Horse Lake First Nation outfit to the day money, edging 2024 Grande Prairie Stompede champion Jamie Laboucane by a mere one-hundredth of a second. Logan Gorst, Jordie Fike, and Kurt Bensmiller completed the top five fastest times of the night. Jordie Fike won the CRUSH-IT Heat of the Night taking the top time in Heat #6.

Despite finishing second on the evening, Laboucane’s strong performance moved him into the overall aggregate lead with a two-day time of 2:29.79. Opening-night winner Rae Croteau Jr. now sits second overall, followed by Darcy Flad and Logan Gorst in third and fourth respectively. Defending Grande Prairie champion Obrey Motowylo is fifth in the aggregate standings, just twelve one-hundredths of a second behind the final qualifying position for Sunday’s Championship Final.

The driver leading the aggregate standings following Saturday night’s performance will receive the Ralph Vigen Memorial Award, along with the use of a 2026 GMC truck for one year courtesy of Summit Fleet. The top four drivers in the aggregate standings after Saturday will advance to Sunday’s $40,000 Championship Final Heat, where they will compete for the Grande Prairie Stompede championship title.

Day three of the Grande Prairie Stompede Championship can be heard live on WPCA Radio on Friday, May 29, beginning at 7:00 p.m. Mountain Time on 96.5 The Ranch. Fans can also tune in through streaming options available on the WPCA website, iHeartRadio, and Radioplayer Canada.
