As the countdown to the 2026 World Professional Chuckwagon Association (WPCA) season begins, Chance Flad is not just resting on the successes of the past couple of years. Fresh off significant achievements in 2024 and 2025, including his first career show win at the Wainwright Stampede, Flad is determined to elevate his performance on the chuckwagon racing circuit. With a mix of new equine talent and a sharpened focus on horse care, Flad is poised for what promises to be an exhilarating year on the track.

Flad’s return to the Calgary Stampede Rangeland Derby for 2026 marks a notable milestone in his burgeoning career. Having been officially invited back for this prestigious event, the anticipation is palpable. “Competing at the Calgary Stampede is an honor,” Flad stated. “I’m looking forward to showcasing what I’ve learned and how I’ve grown as a driver.”

A significant part of Flad’s strategy for the upcoming season centers on equine well-being. Partnering with G’s Organic Solutions to ensure the digestive health and muscle development of his horses, Flad believes that investing in the fitness of his team is paramount for success. “Keeping my equine athletes in peak condition has been key,” he notes. “I’m excited to see the results of this collaboration.”

Entering the 2026 season, Flad carries the momentum of his recent achievements, having solidified a place within the top ranks of the WPCA. His success is not just about winning; it’s about consistent performance. “My expectations for this season are to become more consistent and tougher, which is critical given the competitiveness of the WPCA,” he said. With 36 formidable competitors each night, Flad understands that even minor missteps can dramatically impact standings. “Every little hiccup can take you down in the rankings, and that’s what makes this sport so thrilling and challenging,” he added.

This season also sees Flad integrating eight new horses into his team, specifically selected for their size and strength. Sourced from various locations including Phoenix, Century Mile, and Vancouver, these horses represent a strategic move to bolster his lineup. “I’ve focused on bringing in larger, stouter horses that can help improve my overall performance,” Flad explained.

Reflecting on his journey in the sport, Flad credits Doug Irvine as his most significant mentor. “Doug was instrumental in getting me started as an outrider and has been a constant source of support throughout my early career. He helped me transition to driving full-time, and I wouldn’t be where I am today without him,” Flad remarked.

Looking forward, Flad’s goals for the 2026 season are clear: consistency and competitiveness. “I want to make sure that every run counts and that I’m pushing myself to be the best I can be,” he stated emphatically.

As a three-time World Champion Outrider, Flad’s experience and dedication signal a promising future in chuckwagon racing. As Chance Flad gears up for the 2026 WPCA season, his combination of strategic planning, passion for equine health, and a relentless drive for improvement showcases his commitment to the sport.

With the Calgary Stampede on the horizon and a fresh team ready to take on the challenges ahead. Wagon fans wilk surely be watching closely as Chance Flad embarks on this exciting chapter of his career.
