Night 4 of the Grande Prairie Stompede Championship was contested under cloudy skies, a comfortable 16°C, and excellent track conditions. With the final opportunity to qualify for Sunday’s sudden-death Championship Final on the line, drivers battled for one of four coveted spots in the $40,000 winner-take-all showdown.
When the dust settled, defending Grande Prairie champion Obrey Motowylo, Darcy Flad, Troy Dorchester, and Luke Tournier secured their places in Sunday’s Championship Final Heat.
Motowylo, driving the Dynamic Energy Group Inc. outfit, earned the top qualifying position with a four-day aggregate time of 5:03.19. In addition to leading the standings, he will receive the Ralph Vigen Memorial Award and the use of a 2026 GMC truck for one year courtesy of Summit Fleet. Darcy Flad qualified second overall, while Troy Dorchester held onto third place. Luke Tournier claimed the fourth and final berth in Sunday’s championship race. Former Grande Prairie champion Evan Salmond narrowly missed advancing, finishing fifth overall and less than one second shy of a spot in the final.
On the evening, Jason Glass and the Birchcliff Energy Ltd. outfit captured the Kirk’s Trail Tire Fast Time of the Night with a run of 1:15.63 from barrel number two in the tenth heat. His time was 14 one-hundredths of a second quicker than Layne Flad, who finished second on the night. Evan Salmond, Obrey Motowylo, and Luke Tournier rounded out the top five fastest runs.
The finals of the Grande Prairie Stompede Championship can be heard live on WPCA Radio on Sunday, May 31, beginning at 7:00 p.m. Mountain Time on 96.5 The Ranch.
