As the temperatures go up, the so did the speed of the wagons, as night 5 of the Calgary Stampede Rangeland Derby presented by Play Alberta was run under mostly sunny skies and a hot 30°C. Racetrack conditions were fast once again, and Chad Fike, driving the Steelhaus Tryton outfit, picked up his second first place cheque of the week after a very rapid run of 1:10.85. Fike is the only driver to break the 1:11.00 barrier

Coming off barrel number 2 in the 8th heat, Fike won his second day money of the week by 55 one-hundredths of a second over Jamie Laboucane. Obrey Motowylo placed third, with Chanse Vigen and Jason Glass filling out the top five runs of the night.

As we hit the midway point of the Rangeland Derby, Chanse Vigen still tops the leaderboard in the overall aggregate standings with a five-day total of 6:02.10, but is just 21 one-hundredths of a second ahead of Jamie Laboucane who remains in second place overall. Rae Croteau Jr. has reclaimed third spot overall, but is nearly 6 seconds back of the overall leader Chanse Vigen. 2019 Rangeland Derby Champion Logan Gorst is now in fourth place overall, 1.23 seconds out of the ever so important third hole. Obrey Motowylo, who was 25th overall after night one, has crawled back into the mix and now sits in fifth place overall, 1.45 seconds out of a possible spot in the top three.

The top 3 in the aggregate after Saturday, July 12, 2025, will go into the championship final heat. The winner of the championship final heat will be declared the 2025 Calgary Stampede Rangeland Derby presented by Play Alberta Champion.
