Night 2 of the Cowboys Rangeland Derby ran on a hot Saturday night in Calgary. It was a very competitive night of racing, racetrack conditions were slightly faster than that of day 1, and a new track record was established for the second consecutive night. When the sun went down on Calgary, Chad Fike, driving the Shaw GMC Chevrolet Buick outfit, took the day money with a run of 1:12.81.

From barrel number 1 in the 6th heat, Fike was the top wagon on the night by 33 one-hundredths of a second over Kris Molle. Four-time Rangeland Derby champion Kurt Bensmiller placed third, followed Cody Ridsdale with Chance Bensmiller filling out the top five on the night.

The day money run has vaulted Fike to the top of the leaderboard in the overall aggregate standings with a two-day total of 2:27.43. That puts him 16 one-hundredths of a second ahead of 2012 finalist Doug Irvine with Kurt Bensmiller holding down third spot overall. Chance Bensmiller and Chanse Vigen are in 4th and 5th place respectively, both less than 3 tenths of a second out of the top 3. The top 3 in the aggregate after Saturday, July 16, 2022 will go into the championship final heat. The winner of the championship final heat will be declared the 2022 Calgary Stampede Cowboys Rangeland Derby Champion.

Live coverage of day 3 of the 2022 Cowboys Rangeland Derby can be seen on Sunday Night, July 10, 2022, on Sportsnet One starting at 8:30pm local time. Check your local listings.
