After an incredible canvas auction at the Calgary Stampede one week ago, it was time for the first Chuckwagon Canvas Auction in the history of the Century Downs Racetrack and Casino World Chuckwagon Finals which will take place August 23-27, 2023 to conclude the 2023 WPCA Pro Tour. Tarps on the wagons of the thirty-two best chuckwagon drivers in the World, plus four Wild Card drivers were put up for sale. As was the case for the Rangeland Derby Canvas Auction, the Century Downs Auction was a tremendous success, bringing in $414,000.00 for the five day show.
Second year WPCA driver Evan Magee was the shining star of the first Canvas Auction at Century Downs Racetrack and Casino, bringing the top bid of $23,000.00 from Provincial Vodka, while the low bid for the sale was a respectable $6,000.00. The average bid for all 36 wagons was $11,500.00, while the median bid came in at an even $10,000.00.
The final Chuckwagon Canvas Auction of 2023 will be for one of chuckwagon racing’s biggest and most prestigious events – the Ponoka Stampede – on May 5, 2023, at the Stagecoach Saloon on the Ponoka Stampede Grounds in Ponoka, Alberta. Check wpca.com for further details.
