Night two of the WPCA World Chuckwagon Finals was run under a few clouds, excellent racetrack conditions, and some outstanding races were once again witnessed by a full grandstand. When the sun set on the South Saskatchewan Park in Rocky Mountain House, Chanse Vigen established a new track record to take over a slight lead in the World Chuckwagon Standings.

Vigen, who is in search of a record tying third consecutive World Chuckwagon Championship, has now moved into first place in the World Standings, 3.5 points over four-time World Champion Jason Glass. Obrey Motowylo moved into third place overall in the chase for the World Chuckwagon Championship, 45 points behind the overall leader Chanse Vigen, with Evan Salmond in fourth place, one more point behind Motowylo. The World Champion Chuckwagon Driver and the World Champion Outrider will both be declared on Saturday night as the ones who accumulate the most number of points over the course of the season.

The Alberta Ag Centre Fast Time of the Night’s track record run of 1:12.76 by Chane Vigen’s Terrafirma Resources outfit was from barrel number four in the ninth heat of the evening. Vigen bettered his own track record of 1:13.52 set in 2023 by 76 one-hundredths of a second but was just 29 one-hundredths of a second faster than Obrey Motowylo who also broke the 2023 track record time set by Vigen. Kris Molle and Jamie Laboucane placed third and fourth respectively, and like Motowylo also bettered the old track record time. Cruise Bensmiller filled out the top five on the night.

The Track record run also pushed Chanse Vigen into first place in the overall aggregate standings with a two-run total of 2:30.51 and gives him a 1.58 second lead over Kris Molle. Obrey Motowylo sits third, with Jamie Laboucane in fourth place overall. Jason Glass is just outside the top four, 35 one-hundredths of a second behind Jamie Laboucane. The top four drivers in the overall aggregate standings after Saturday night will go into the Championship Final Heat to declare the champion of the Battle of the Rockies Championship.

Day three of the WPCA World Chuckwagon Finals can be heard live on Friday night, August 15, 2025, on WPCA Radio starting 8:45pm Eastern, 7:45pm Central, 6:45pm Mountain time, and 5:45pm Pacific time on 96.5 The Ranch, or streaming options are available through the WPCA Website at wpca.com, iHeart Radio website/app or the Radioplayer Canada website/app.
