Chanse Vigen – Third First Place Run Out Of Eight Nights In Calgary

The sun continues to shine, heart rates go up as barrels go down, but at the 2024 Calgary Stampede Cowboys Rangeland Derby, the entertainment value has been second to none. For the third time this week, Chanse Vigen and his KMA Construction & KMA Scaffolding Services outfit has taken the top time on the night after a penalty free run of 1:10.81.
From barrel number 1 in the 9th heat, Vigen’s time was the fastest on the night by was the top wagon on the night by 41 one-hundredths of a second over Jason Glass who established a new track record just last night. Obrey Motowylo was third, Wade Salmond was fourth and Kris Molle filled out the top five on the night.
With just one run to go for drivers to try and earn a spot in the 2024 Calgary Stampede Cowboys Rangeland Derby’s Championship Final Heat, Chanse Vigen now sits atop the overall aggregate standings thanks to tonight’s day money run with an eight-day total of 9:34.58. That puts him just 40 one-hundredths of a second ahead of Jason Glass, with defending champion Layne MacGillivray now occupying third place overall. Former finalist Obrey Motowylo sits fourth overall but is just 44 one-hundredths of a second out of a spot in Sunday’s Championship Final. Overnight leader Chad Fike knocked a barrel, but still sits fifth overall, 1.28 8 second back of third place overall, with 2023 Calgary Stampede Top Rookie Driver Wade Salmond in 6th place, 1.86 seconds out of a possible spot in Sunday’s final.
The top 3 in the overall aggregate standings after Saturday, July 13 2024, will go into the championship final heat. The winner of the championship final heat will be declared the 2024 Calgary Stampede Rangeland Derby Champion.
