It has been one month since the 2nd leg of the Elite Team Series was held at the Ponoka Stampede. The Strathmore Stampede, Rocky Mountain House and Century Downs events will make up the final 3 legs of the 5 team, 5 show series that started off back in May at the Grande Prairie Stompede.
Team Century Downs led by 2022 World Champion Layne MacGillivray edged out Team Strathmore by 2 points last night to tighten things at the top in the Elite Team Series standings. Team Century Downs currently has 1400.5 points while Team Strathmore is 2nd with 1400. Team Rocky Mountain House led by Ross Knight is in 3rd spot with 1292 points while Team Ponoka and Team Grande Prairie sit 4th and 5th.
Fans who watch the livestreams or attend the WPCA events live will notice some drivers wearing black safety vests with a shirt representing their barrel color underneath. These drivers are part of the 5 team, 20 driver Team Series who were picked by representatives from the western wear industry and host committees to form a racing team.
As of night 1 in Strathmore, only 3 drivers have recorded more than 200 points in the Team Series. Chance Vigen (Century Downs) is the number one driver over all in the team series with 238.5 points. Jason Glass (Team Strathmore) has recorded 216 points and Ross Knight representing Rocky Mountain House has 208.5
The teams are competing for the Western Wear Retailers Cup and $20,000.00 that will be awarded to the team with the most points after the Century Downs World Finals.
