Warm weather, capacity crowds, and the best chuckwagon racing on the planet was the recipe for night number three at the WPCA Pro Tour stop in High River for the Battle of the Foothills. When the evening wrapped up, in a rare occurrence, Kurt Bensmiller and Obrey Motowylo were involved in a dead heat, and their time held up as the top time on the night, with both drivers sharing the day money after posting identical runs of 1:16.02

With both drivers competing in heat number 8, Bensmiller, driving the AIC Construction Ltd. outfit and coming off barrel position number two, and Motowylo, driving The Co-operators – Crawford Insurance Group Ltd. outfit and coming off barrel position number four, were involved in a tie at the wire and split first and second place on the day, 81 one-hundredths of a second faster than Kirk Sutherland who finished third on the night. Rae Croteau Jr. and Chance Thomson filled out the top five wagons on the night.

With just one run to go to determine the champion, Chanse Vigen and his Volker Stevin/Glover International Trucks outfit continue to lead the overall aggregate standings with a three-day total time of 3:49.98. That puts him 1.08 seconds ahead of co-day money winner Obrey Motowylo, with Jason Glass slipping into third place overall. Jamie Laboucane and Chad Fike continue to make the top five overall. The driver posting the best 4-day aggregate time after Sunday afternoon’s run will be declared the 2024 Battle of the Foothills Champion.

The final day of the Battle of the Foothills in High River can be heard live on Sunday afternoon, July 28, 2024 starting at 6:00pm ET, 5:00pm CT and 4:00pm MT on New Country 92.5 FM Drumheller, 93.3 FM Stettler, 105.7 FM Brooks, 94.9 FM Blairmore, 92.7 FM Pincher Creek, or streaming options are available through the wpca.com, iHeart Radio website/app or the Radioplayer Canada website/app.
