Obrey Motowylo – Wins Second Day Money Of The Week On Night 3 In Ponoka

It was a hot and sunny night with racetrack conditions were much improved on Saturday night at the Ponoka Stampede, as night 3 produced some entertaining chuckwagon races in front of a capacity crowd at one of chuckwagon racing’s biggest events. When times were tabulated for the night, it was former Ponoka Stampede Champion Obrey Motowylo who emerged as the day money winner after posting a 1:13.99 from barrel number 3 in the seventh heat on the evening.
Motowylo’s Co-operators outfit time was 36 one-hundredths of a second faster than Tuff Dreger. Chanse Vigen and Kurt Bensmiller followed in third and fourth place respectively, with Rae Croteau Jr. completing out the top five on the night.
In the race for the top four, Chanse Vigan and his Grind Energy Services/Canadian Downhole outfit continues to lead the overall aggregate with a three-run total of 3:58.11. That puts him 1.73 seconds ahead of Layne MacGillivray, with Luke Tournier and Kurt Bensmiller completing the top four after three runs. Kris Molle is on the outside looking in, sitting in fifth place overall, but only 35 one-hundredths of a second out of the last qualifying spot for Monday’s championship final. The day money run moved Motowylo from twelfth place overall at the start of the day into sixth, just 2 one-hundredths of a second behind Molle.
The top four in the aggregate standings after Sunday’s night run on June 30 will go into the $75,000.00 Tommy Dorchester Championship Final Heat where the winner will take home the 2024 Ponoka Stampede Championship.
