Top 4 qualify for the Century Downs “Winners’ Zone” Series Championship Final Heat.
Ties are broken through best aggregate time among the tied drivers.

It was a beautiful night for chuckwagon racing as night three of the Wild West WPCA World Chuckwagon Finals took place on the Ponoka Stampede grounds in Ponoka, Alberta. Skies were clear, the temperature was a warm 22°C and racetrack conditions get better and faster with every passing day.

Despite some challenges from some of the toughest competitors in the game, it’s still Jamie Laboucane who leads the Century Downs “Winners’ Zone” Series Playoff round with 33 playoff points after three runs. That puts him 2 points ahead of Jason Glass who now sits in second place. World Points leader Chanse Vigen is in third, with reigning Ponoka Stampede Champion Luke Tournier and Wade Salmond splitting fourth and fifth, with Chad Fike just one point outside the top four in sixth place overall. Should any ties occur, after tomorrow’s night run, the best aggregate time among the tied drivers will break all ties. Currently, the tie breaker would go to Luke Tournier. The 4 drivers in the playoff points standings after Sunday night will compete in the Century Downs “Winners’ Zone” Series Championship Final Heat on Monday afternoon where they will be racing for $50,000.00 cash and the prestige of being recognized as the Century Downs “Winners’ Zone” Series Champion.

On the night, Jason Glass and his Birchcliff Energy Ltd. outfit grabbed the top time after posting the fast time of the race meet so far with a 1:12.83 from barrel 1 in heat number 9. That was 55 one-hundredths of a second faster than Chad Fike who had to settle for second place on the night, with Jamie Laboucane, Roger Moore and Luke Tournier rounding out the top five times on the night.

For the 36 drivers who are racing for the Wild West WPCA World Chuckwagon Finals Aggregate Championship, the day money run has moved Jason Glass to the top of the overall aggregate standings with a three-run total of 3:44.68, and leads Century Downs “Winners’ Zone” Championship Series points leader Jamie Laboucane by exactly one-quarter of a second. Chanse Vigen continues to sit third overall, with Chad Fike and Luke Tournier completing the top five drivers overall after three runs. The driver posting the best 4-day aggregate time after Sunday’s run will be declared the champion of the Wild West WPCA World Chuckwagon Finals race meet.

Chanse Vigen is one run away from capturing his second consecutive World Chuckwagon Championship. Vigen sits atop the World Standings with 1389.5 points, which puts him 84 points in front of 4-time World Champion Chuckwagon Driver Jason Glass. Rae Croteau Jr., Jamie Laboucane and Chad Fike currently occupy the top five spots in the World Standings with one run to go to decide the 2024 World Champion Chuckwagon Driver.

Night 4 of the Wild West WPCA World Chuckwagon Finals can be heard live on Sunday night, September 1, 2024 starting at 8:30pm Eastern, 7:30pm Central and 6:30pm Mountain Time on New Country 92.5 FM Drumheller, 93.3 FM Stettler, 105.7 FM Brooks, 94.9 FM Blairmore, 92.7 FM Pincher Creek, or streaming options are available through the WPCA Website at wpca.com, iHeart Radio website/app or the Radioplayer Canada website/app. The Wild West WPCA World Chuckwagon Finals can also be watched live on the WPCA Livestream at watch.wpca.com.
