Jason Glass – Day Money Run On Night 9 Puts Him Into Calgary’s Sunday Final In First Place

It was hot evening of racing both weather wise and excitement wise on night 9 at the Calgary Stampede Cowboys Rangeland Derby. After nine very exciting nights of chuckwagon racing, the championship final heat for the 2024 Calgary Stampede Cowboys Rangeland Derby Championship has now been set as Jason Glass, Chanse Vigen, and Layne MacGillivray will make up the championship final heat.
Glass, despite a 5 second penalty for knocking over a barrel earlier in the week, clawed his way back and qualified for Sunday’s final in first place overall with a nine day total of 10:46.44. That put him 68 one hundredths of a second faster than reigning World Champion Chanse Vigen who qualified in second place. Defending Cowboys Rangeland Derby Champion Layne MacGillivray held onto the final qualifying spot, 5.48 seconds behind overall leader Jason Glass. Chad Fike, who had been in first place at different times throughout the show was the odd man out, just 15 one-hundredths of a second out of a spot in Sunday’s final. 2023 Calgary Stampede Top Rookie Driver Wade Salmond was fifth, 2.14 seconds back of third hole.
On the night, Jason Glass also collected his third day money cheque of the show. His Birchcliff Energy Ltd. Outfit posted a time of 1:11.46 to finish just under 1 second ahead of rookie driver Dayton Sutherland. Chanse Vigen placed third, Jamie Laboucane was fourth and Chad Fike rounded out the top five times on Saturday night.
