After a successful run at the Calgary Stampede Cowboys Rangeland Derby, the WPCA Pro Tour resumed in the Town of High River for the first of two consecutive weekends at the Battle of the Foothills. It was a hot summer night and despite some pre race rain, chuckwagon fans were treated to ideal weather and racetrack conditions and ten heats of the best of professional chuckwagon racing. When the sun settled on High River, Jamie Laboucane emerged as the day money winner with a penalty free run of 1:19.20.
Coming off barrel number 3 in the 9th heat, Laboucane – driving the Davco Industrial Construction Services outfit – placed first on the night by 7 tenths of a second over Kurt Bensmiller to win the day money. Kris Molle placed third, with Evan Salmond and Brad McMann rounding out the top five for the night.
The top 8 in the aggregate after next Friday night’s run will go into the two semi-final round on Saturday night. The top 4 times from the semi-final round on July 28 will go into the Championship Final Heat where the winner will take home the 2023 Battle of the Foothills Championship.
Day 2 from the Battle of the Foothills in High River can be heard live on Saturday night, July 22, 2023 starting at 9:00pm ET, 8:00pm CT and 7:00pm MT on Real Country 910am.
