Sunday night in Grande Prairie, Alberta saw a great racetrack and a highly anticipated $80,000.00 final day with the 2024 Grande Prairie Stompede Championship on the line. In what was truly an exciting chuckwagon race, Jamie Laboucane – driving the Wild Rows Pump & Compression Ltd. Outfit, and along with outriders Kale Lajeunesse and Hayden Motowylo, captured the first show of the 2024 WPCA race season.
Coming off of barrel position number 1 in Sunday’s Championship Final Heat, Laboucane captured Grande Prairie crown with a penalty free run of 1:16.08. Chad Fike from barrel position number 2 placed second in the heat, 77 one-hundredths of a second behind the winner Jamie Laboucane. Two-time Grande Prairie champion Jason Glass finished in third place from barrel position number 2, followed by Wade Salmond, who crossed the finish line fourth.
As far as day results go, winning time in the championship final was also the fast time of the night, and the fast time of the entire week. Chad Fike’s second plac time in the final was also the second best time of the night, followed by 1999 Grande Prairie Champion Troy Dorchester, defending chamion Chanse Flad, with Dayton Sutherland filling out the top five on the final night.
The WPCA Pro Tour presented by GMC will move on to Bonnyville, Alberta for the running of the Bonnyville Chuckwagon Championship starting on Thursday, June 6 and running through to Sunday, June 9, 2024. Obrey Motowylo is the defending champion, and live coverage can be heard starting Thursday night, June 6, 2024 at 9:00pm Eastern, 8:00pm Central, and 7:000pm Mountain time on New Country 910.
