It was another spectacular night of chuckwagon racing at Stampede Park as bright sunshine greeted the competitors on Night 5 of the 2026 Calgary Stampede Rangeland Derby presented by Play Alberta. With temperatures reaching a sizzling 25°C and track conditions in prime shape, two-time Rangeland Derby Champion Jason Glass, driving the Birchcliff Energy Ltd. outfit, posted the Kirk’s Trail Tire Wheels on Fire Fast Time of the Night with a blistering run of 1:10.45.
Coming off barrel number three in the eighth heat, Glass was nearly a full second faster than Chanse Vigen, who recorded his fourth second-place finish in five nights. Logan Gorst claimed third on the evening, while Dustin Gorst finished fourth and Jamie Laboucane rounded out the top five.
Despite Glass claiming the nightly honours, Jamie Laboucane maintained his lead in the overall aggregate standings at the midway point of the show with a five-day combined time of 6:02.38. He holds a slim 0.35-second advantage over Chanse Vigen, who moved into second place overall, while Rae Croteau Jr. sits third. Glass’s nightly victory vaulted him into fourth place in the aggregate standings, just under three seconds back of a top-three position, with Chad Fike rounding out the top five after five nights of racing.
The top three drivers in the aggregate standings following racing on Saturday, July 11, will advance to the Championship Final Heat. The winner of that heat will be crowned the 2026 Calgary Stampede Rangeland Derby presented by Play Alberta Champion.
