For The Second Consecutive Year Chad Fike Opens Up The Rangeland Derby With The Top Time

It was a warm but cloudy evening in Calgary as the 2025 Calgary Stampede Rangeland Derby presented by Play Alberta kicked off on Friday night. Jason Glass came into this year’s event as the defending champion, and ss per usual the chuckwagon races at the Stampede drew a capacity crowd. When the night concluded, Chad Fike, driving the Steelhaus Tryton outfit, who opened up Stampede 2025 with the top time of 1:11.73. It’s the second consecutive year that Chad Fike has opened up the Rangeland Derby presented by Play Alberta with the top time on the night.

Coming off barrel number 3 in the 8th heat, Fike won the day money by 52 one-hundredths of a second over Chanse Vigen.  Jamie Laboucane was third, Preston Faithful grabbed fourth place on the night with defending champion Jason Glass rounding out the top five on opening night.

The top 3 in the aggregate after Saturday, July 12, 2025, will go into the championship final heat. The winner of the championship final heat will be declared the 2025 Calgary Stampede Rangeland Derby presented by Play Alberta Champion.
