Chance Flad – First on the Night, First Overall On Night 3 In Bonnyville

Saturday night in Bonnyville was the last chance for drivers to secure a spot in Sunday’s Victor Ringuette Memorial Championship Final Heat and a shot at the 2022 Bonnyville Chuckwagon Championship. It was a windy but hot 23°C under mostly cloudy skies, and the races were run under perfect racetrack conditions. When the night wrapped up, Chance Flad, Chanse Vigen, Cruise Bensmiller and Wade Salmond will be the four drivers who will compete in Sunday’s Championship Final heat. It’s the first championship final heat qualification for drivers Chance Flad, rookie driver Cruise Bensmiller and Wade Salmond.
Chance Flad moved up into first place overall with a 3 day combined time of 3:57.37. Chanse Vigen grabbed second place overall, Cruise Bensmiller qualified in third place overall, with Wade Salmond sneaking in to grab the 4th and final spot for Sunday’s final. Obrey Motowylo, who had a one-second late outrider penalty on the night ended up in 5th place overall just 42 one-hundreds of a second out of the final qualifying spot for Sunday’s Victor Ringuette Memorial Championship Final Heat. Last weeks Grande Prairie Stompede Champion and two-day overall leader Doug Irvine knocked a barrel and eliminated his chance of winning the first two shows of 2022.
As far as the day results are concerned, Chance Flad, driving the Gen4 Transport Inc. outfit, was the day money winner for the night after posting a time of 1:18.71. Coming off barrel number 2 in heat number 2, Flad posted the top time of the night by 22 one-hundreds of a seconds over Cruise Bensmiller who placed second on the day in the same heat number 2. Obrey Motowylo, even with a 1 second penalty, grabbed third place on the night with Chanse Vigen and Chance Bensmiller filling out the top five times for night number three.
