After a tremendous Heritage Days Long Weekend in Strathmore, Alberta, the WPCA Pro Tour moved onto Mile “0†of the Alaska Highway in Dawson Creek, British Columbia for opening night at the Battle of the North where Rae Croteau Jr. comes into this year’s event trying to win his third consecutive Battle of the North Championship.
The temperature was a comfortable 18°C under a few clouds, and the chuckwagon races were run on very good racetrack conditions in front of an enthusiastic opening night crowd. By the time the sun set, Evan Magee opened up the Battle of the North with the Alberta AG Centre Fast Time of the Night.
Coming off barrel number 4 in heat number 2, Magee, driving the FluidPRO Oilfield Services Ltd. outfit posted a time of 1:14.15 and placed first overall for the day by just 10 one-hundreds of a second over last week’s Strathmore Stampede Champion Jason Glass who placed 2nd for the night. Jamie Laboucane was third, Kris Molle was fourth, with Chance Bensmiller rounded out the top five on the night.
The top driver in the aggregate after Saturday night will get a one-year lease of a 2025 GMC Truck courtesy of Banister GM Dawson Creek. The top 4 drivers in the aggregate after Saturday’s run will go into $30,000.00 Championship Final Heat where the winner will be crowned the 2025 Battle of the North Champion.
