Get to Know More About the Outrider

2023 will be an unforgettable year for Trey as he won his first Calgary Stampede Rangeland Derby behind his father Layne, then helped Chad Fike win his first title at the Dewberry World Chuckwagon Championships, finally with Jamie Laboucane at the Battle of the Foothills.

Trey was in the mix to potentially win his first outriding title, leading the outrider standings when he was involved in an unfortunate accident at the Strathmore Stampede which sidelined him for the remainder of the 2023 season, but was the recipient of the Rod Glass Memorial Award for Most Improved Outrider.

A fourth generation chuckwagon competitor, Trey is the son of current driver Layne MacGillivray, the grandson of former drivers Dennis MacGillivray and Wayne Dagg, and is the great-great-nephew of former driver and legendary chuckwagon promoter Cliff Claggett. Trey enjoys basketball, horses, hockey and hunting in the off season. Trey has a girlfriend – Triston Shaw – and makes his home in Halkirk, Alberta.
