Get to Know More About the Outrider

After an unfortunate accident at the 2023 Strathmore Stampede sidelined him for the last half of the 2023 season, Trey was back in full force in 2024, winning the Richard Cosgrave Memorial symbolic of the Calgary Stampede Aggregate/Safety Champion for the second time behind his father Layne MacGillivray, he rode in fiver championship final heats, and placed inside the top five in the World Standings for the fourth consecutive year.

2023 saw Trey win his first Calgary Stampede Rangeland Derby behind his father Layne, and was the recipient of the Rod Glass Memorial Award for Most Improved Outrider as well. He has outrode for two Richard Cosgrave Memorial Award winners at the Calgary Stampede and won his first Ponoka Stampede in 2022 behind Ross Knight.

A fourth generation chuckwagon competitor, Trey is the son of current driver Layne MacGillivray, the grandson of former drivers Dennis MacGillivray and Wayne Dagg, and is the great-great-nephew of former driver and legendary chuckwagon promoter Cliff Claggett. Trey enjoys basketball, horses, hockey and hunting in the off season. Trey has a girlfriend – Triston Shaw – and makes his home in Coronation, Alberta.
