After taking a ten year break from active competition, Ryan made a small comeback in 2024 outriding at two shows for Cody Ridsdale and Chad Fike, and outriding for Fike in the Championship Final for the Century Downs WINNERS’ ZONE Series at the season ending stop in Ponoka.
Under the guidance of Mike and Chanse Vigen, Ryan made his debut ride at the 2006 Calgary Stampede Rangeland Derby, and went on to win the WPCA Top Rookie Outrier Award in 2007. He won the first major show of his career at the the 2009 Ponoka Stampede outriding for Obrey Motowylo. Ryan outrode only part time in 2010 sohe could start his career as a chuckwagon driver on the Western Chuckwagon Association (WCA) circuit. He was part of history on opening day of the 2010 WCA circuit at Grande Prairie when he was hooked against his father Bruce McAleney and grandfather Brian Lewis – the first time that 3 generations of the same family raced not only at the same competition, but in the same heat.
A third generation chuckwagon competitor, Ryan’s grandfathers are former chuckwagon drivers Larry Kennedy and Brian Lewis. Ryan and his wife Lacey have two children – Ali and Bruce and make their home in Teepee Creek, Alberta.
