Get to Know More About the Outrider

2023 was an incredible season for Rory, who played a major role in Chanse Vigen’s historic run that won the Grande Prairie Stompede and the Ponoka Stampede. Rory finished the year in sixth place in the World Standings which is a career best.

Rory was the recipient of the Rod Glass Memorial Award for Most Improved Outrider in 2019, and captured the first two show championships of his career in the same year.

A third-generation outrider, Rory is the son of two-time World Champion Outrider Randy Armstrong, grandson of chuckwagon legend Orville Strandquist and former outrider Lyle Armstrong, and cousin to former outrider Eddie Melville. Rory is a farmer and rancher in the off season, and enjoys hunting, hockey and working on trucks. He is single, and makes his home in Elnora, Alberta.
