Get to Know More About the Outrider

One of the top stove outriders on the racetrack today, Rory turned in another solid campaign in 2025. He played a key role in two aggregate championship outfits—riding for Jason Glass at the Grande Prairie Stompede and Chanse Vigen at the Battle of the North—and outrode in five Championship Final Heats for three different drivers.

Rory was the recipient of the Rod Glass Memorial Award as WPCA Most Improved Outrider in 2019 and captured the Ponoka Stampede Championship as an outrider in 2023. He has also been instrumental in Chanse Vigen’s three consecutive World Chuckwagon Championships.

A third-generation outrider, Rory is the son of two-time World Champion Outrider Randy Armstrong, grandson of chuckwagon legend Orville Strandquist and former outrider Lyle Armstrong, and cousin to former outrider Eddie Melville.

In the off-season, Rory farms and ranches and enjoys hunting, hockey, and working on trucks. He is single and makes his home in Elnora, Alberta.
