One of the top stovemen on the racetrack, 2024 was another incredible season for Rory, who played a major role in Chanse Vigen’s second consecutive World Chuckwagon Championship. Rory won four show championships in 2024 at at the Medicine Hat Stampede, the Battle of the Foothills, the Strathmore Stampede and the Battle of the Rockies all behind Chanse Vigen. He outrode in seven championship final heats, and for the second consecutive year Rory finished the year in sixth place in the World Standings which is a career best.
Rory was the recipient of the Rod Glass Memorial Award for Most Improved Outrider in 2019, and captured the first two show championships of his career in the same year.
A third-generation outrider, Rory is the son of two-time World Champion Outrider Randy Armstrong, grandson of chuckwagon legend Orville Strandquist and former outrider Lyle Armstrong, and cousin to former outrider Eddie Melville. Rory is a farmer and rancher in the off season, and enjoys hunting, hockey and working on trucks. He is single, and makes his home in Elnora, Alberta.
