One of chuckwagon racing’s elite drivers, 2024 was Rae’s finest in his twenty plus year career. For the second consecutive year he won the Battle of the North in Dawson Creek, B.C., and qualified for five championship final heats at the Bonnyville Chuckwagon Championship, Medicine Hat Stampede, Ponoka Stampede, Strathmore Stampede and the Battle of North. He had his sixth horse named to the WPCA Equine Outfit Of Excellence and his second horse named to the Calgary Stampede’s Equine Athlete Of Excellence. Rae placed in the top ten overall in six shows in 2024, and finished the year a career best third in the World Standings.
Over his career, Rae has won twelve major show championships on the WPCA Pro Tour, was the 2015 GMC Sierra Cup Series Champion, and won the WPCA Showmanship Award in 2002. In three years with the CPCA, he won the CPCA’s Meadow Lake Stampede in 2001, was the CPCA’s High Point Rookie Outrider in 1996, the CPCA’s High Point Rookie Driver in 1999, and the CPCA’s Most Improved Driver in 2000.
Rae made his lone trip to the COWBOYS Rangeland Derby’s championship final in 2014, becoming only the second time that three generations of the same family have qualified for the COWBOYS Rangeland Derby’s championship final joining his father Bert Croteau and grandfather Ray Croteau who each qualified for the Calgary final in 2004 and 1987 respectively.
Rae is a third generation chuckwagon driver and is a cousin to fellow driver Chanse Vigen. Rae has four children – daughters Cora Lynn, Ava Mae, and Hadley and son Kix. He and his wife Ashley make their home in Rapid View, Saskatchewan.
