An emerging star on the WPCA Pro Tour, Layne won his first career day money as a member of the WPCA at the Battle of the Rockies en route to his best finish in the World Standings placing twenty-first overall. On the year, the day money run, plus a second place run at the Wild West WPCA World Chuckwagon Finals in Ponoka were among eight top ten runs on the season. An eighth place overall aggregate finish at the season ending Wild West WPCA World Chuckwagon Finals was his best of the year. Layne was also one of the Chuckwagon 101 drivers at the 2024 COWBOYS Rangeland Derby.
Layne made his debut as a driver in 2018 at the Western Chuckwagon Association’s Grande Prairie Stompede where he won the day money in just his third race as chuckwagon driver. A 3rd generation chuckwagon driver, Layne is the grandson of former drivers Herman Flad and Dwight Green, and the son of current driver Darcy Flad. He credits his father and the great Kelly Sutherland for helping him get started in the chuckwagon business.
Layne enjoys playing and officiating hockey and received the Ron Centazzo Memorial Award from Hockey Alberta for going above and beyond to make a difference within his hockey community. In the off-season Layne is currently working as a mechanical engineering intern with Roska DBO Inc. out of Grande Prairie. Layne is single, and makes his home in Bodo, Alberta.
