The 2024 season was an exciting one for Ethan as he claimed his second consecutive World Outriding Championship, and for the first time received the Calgary Stampede’s Outstanding Outrider Award. The race for the 2024 World Champion Outrider was a battle royal between Ethan and three-time World Champion Rory Gervais. For the first time in history, there was a tie at the top of the World Outriding Standings, and according to the WPCA rulebook, in the case of a tie, the winner will be determined by the outrider with the most points in the final show, which gave the nod to Ethan in the most exciting race in the history of the award.
Overall, Ethan was a part of show victories at the Medicine Hat Stampede, the Battle of the Foothills, the Strathmore Stampede and the Battle of the Rockies all behind Chanse Vigen, out rode in seven championship final heats, and was the high pointed outrider at five shows.
Ethan is a two time recipient of the Rod Glass Memorial Award symbolic of the WPCA’s Most Improved Outrider, and was the WPCA Top Rookie Outrider in 2016 – the same year he made his first official ride behind his father Obrey Motowylo at the Grande Prairie Stompede.
Ethan credits 5-time World Champion Outrider Chanse Vigen as being the most helpful and influential over his outriding career. A former wild pony racer, Ethan works as a farrier and enjoys team roping and breaking horses in the off-season. He has a girlfriend named Jayda and makes his home in Hoadley, Alberta.
