One of the hardest-working figures on and off the track, Dean was named the WPCA Chuckwagon Person of the Year in 2024. In 2025, he recorded six top-ten runs, highlighted by a third-place run at the WPCA World Finals, with a tenth-place aggregate at the Teepee Creek Stampede marking his best overall result.
Dean began his career on the WPCA Second Circuit in 1999, earning Top Rookie Driver honours, and became a founding member of the Western Chuckwagon Association (WCA) in 2001. Over two decades with the WCA, he captured the 2016 WCA Champion, multiple show titles, and received the WCA’s Masters Award on numerous occasions.
He is the son-in-law of Kelly Sutherland and father of driver Tuff Dreger. A business owner in the oilfield industry, Dean lives in Grande Prairie, Alberta, with his wife Tara — recipient of the WPCA’s Ty Tournier Memorial Award in 2024 — and their three children—Cheyenne, Tuff, and Dakota.
