One of the true characters in professional chuckwagon racing, the 2024 season saw Darcy have his best career finish in the World Standings, placing fourteenth overall. Darcy post eleven top-ten runs including a day money run on the final night of the COWBOYS Rangeland Derby, and three additional runs that cracked the top five. Top ten overall finishes at the Bonnyville Chuckwagon Championship, Medicine Hat Stampede and the Calgary Stampede were his best of the season.

Darcy is a two-time Colonial Days Fair champion, a three-time Colonial Days Fair Aggregate Winner, and a former winner of the WPCA Top Rookie Driver and Most Improved Driver awards. In 2023 Darcy had a horse named to the Calgary Stampede Equine Athlete of Excellence. Darcy is the eldest son of former Calgary Stampede Rangeland Derby Champion the late Herman Flad, and father to fellow driver Layne Flad.

A rancher in the off-season, Darcy is a graduate of Olds College and has two children – Layne and Cheyenne-Jill. He lists hockey, rodeo, team roping and hunting among his other interests and hobbies. Darcy and his wife Richelle make their home in Bodo, Alberta.
