2024 was an incredible season for D.J., which was split between the Canadian Professional Chuckwagon Association (CPCA) circuit and the WPCA Pro Tour. As a Permit Driver on the WPCA Pro Tour, D.J. won his first WPCA day money at the Medicine Hat Stampede, and recorded a pair of top ten overall finishes at the Medicine Hat Stampede and the Battle of the Foothills.
On the CPCA circuit, he recorded the first three victories of his chuckwagon career at the CPCA Races in Cold Lake, Kelvington and the Little Pine Days of Thunder and a dash-for-cash win at Back to Batoche. He posted thirty two top ten runs including six first place runs and twenty runs that also placed inside the top ten. He qualified for three championship final heats at the North American Chuckwagon Championship in Lloydminster, Back to Batoche and the CPCA Championship dash as well. For the second consecutive year D.J. won the CPCA Safe Driver Award and had a horse named to the CPCA Equine Outfit of Excellence.
DJ started his career under the watchful eye of his uncle Daniel King on the Western Chuckwagon Association (WCA) circuit in 2014, before moving to the CPCA in 2015 where he was named the CPCA’s Top Rookie Driver. In 2022 he won the Roy Bremner Memorial Award, and in 2019 he received the CPCA Family of the Year award and the Bruce Bremner Memorial for most consistent barreling outfit. DJ was one of the founders of the North American Chuckwagon Championship in Lloydminster in 2021.
A former professional hockey player, DJ played six seasons in the National Hockey League (NHL) with the St. Louis Blues and the Washington Capitals. He is co-owner of Tawaw Cabins, a resort located in Waterhen Lake, Saskatchewan, and enjoys hockey, fishing, hunting and golfing in his spare time.DJ and his partner Chantal have two sons – Jacob and Drew, and make their home in Meadow Lake, Saskatchewan.
