After heavy rainfall forced the postponement of Friday night’s chuckwagon races, competition resumed Saturday as scheduled. Afternoon sunshine and strong winds helped dry the racetrack, creating ideal racing conditions for Day 2 of the Bonnyville Chuckwagon Championship. Under mostly sunny skies and a comfortable 19°C, defending Bonnyville champion Jamie Laboucane posted the Kirk’s Trail Tire Wheels on Fire Fast Time of the Night with a run of 1:16.59.
Competing from barrel number four in the seventh heat, Laboucane guided the Wild Rows Pump & Compression Ltd. outfit to the fastest time of the evening. Despite being assessed a one-second penalty for a late outrider, he still finished 31 one-hundredths of a second ahead of Chad Fike, who placed second on the night. Logan Gorst, Jason Glass, and Obrey Motowylo rounded out the top five fastest runs.
After two runs, Logan Gorst and the Flashpoint Electric Ltd. outfit sit atop the overall aggregate standings with a combined time of 2:34.83. Gorst holds an 87 one-hundredths of a second advantage over former Bonnyville champion Chanse Vigen, while Dustin Gorst and Darcy Flad currently occupy the third and fourth qualifying positions. Fresh off his Grande Prairie Stompede Championship victory, Obrey Motowylo sits just outside the top four in fifth place, only 37 one-hundredths of a second behind the final qualifying spot.
The top four drivers in the aggregate standings following Sunday’s performance will advance to Monday evening’s Championship Final Heat, where they will compete for the 2026 Bonnyville Chuckwagon Championship title.
Day 3 of the Bonnyville Chuckwagon Championship can be heard live on WPCA Radio on Sunday, June 7, beginning at 4:00 p.m. Eastern, 3:00 p.m. Central, and 2:00 p.m. Mountain Time on 96.5 The Ranch.
