A little pre-race rain didn’t damper anyone’s spirits as by the time the first chuckwagon race was run on night 2 of the Strathmore Stampede, the rain and wind stopped resulting in a perfect night of chuckwagon racing. When the sun finally set on Strathmore, Chanse Vigen, for the second consecutive night, won the day money after posting a very rapid 1:12.77.

From barrel number 2 in heat number 9, Vigen, driving the Blackstone Drilling Fluids Ltd. Outfit, posted the fast time of the race meet so far, beating second place finisher Jamie Laboucane by nearly two full seconds. Rae Croteau Jr. placed third, with Obrey Motowylo and Kurt Bensmiller rounding out the top five on the night.

The second consecutive day money run has given Chanse Vigen a commanding lead in the overall aggregate standings with a two-run total of 2:25.78. That puts him nearly 4 full seconds in front of Jamie Laboucane, with Jason Glass and Obrey Motowylo completing the ever so important top four. Rae Croteau Jr. is on the outside looking in, just 6 one-hundreds of a second out of a spot in Monday’s Championship Final Heat, with Kurt Bensmiller just another 15 one-hundreds of a second behind Rae Croteau Jr.

The top four drivers in the aggregate standings after Sunday night will go into the $25,000.00 Championship Final Heat on Monday afternoon. The winner of Monday’s final will be declared the champion of the 2024 Strathmore Stampede.

Day 3 the Strathmore Stampede can be heard Sunday night, August 4, 2024 on WPCA Radio starting 9:00pm Eastern, 8:00pm Central, and 7:00pm Mountain time on New Country 92.5 FM Drumheller, 93.3 FM Stettler, 105.7 FM Brooks, 94.9 FM Blairmore, 92.7 FM Pincher Creek, or streaming options are available through the wpca.com, iHeart Radio website/app or the Radioplayer Canada website/app. The Strathmore Stampede can also be watched live on the WPCA Livestream at watch.wpca.com.
