The third stop on the WPCA Pro Tour is in the books as the finals of the Medicine Hat Exhibition & Stampede wrapped up on Sunday afternoon on a fantastic racetrack and a fantastic championship final heat lineup that featured Chanse Vigen, Rae Croteau Jr. and Kirk Sutherland. In the end, Chanse Vigen, driving the Volker Stevin Canada outfit, and along with outriders Ethan Motowylo and Rory Armstrong who was declared the champion of the 2024 Medicine Hat Exhibition & Stampede with a penalty free run of 1:02.61 in the championship final.
From barrel position number two in the championship final heat number 12, Vigen posted a fast run of 1:02.61 and beat out Kirk Sutherland who selected barrel number one, by a large margin of 1.93 seconds, with Rae Croteau Jr., who actually crossed the finish line in second place, but was assessed 3 seconds in outrider penalties and placed third from barrel number three. It’s the first time Chanse Vigen has won the Medicine Hat Exhibition & Stampede championship.
On the night, Ross Knight’s R/T Rentals outfit was the day money winner with a time of 1:01.67, which was 18 one-hundreds of a second faster than Evan Salmond, with Jason Glass, Cody Ridsdale and Wade Salmond making out the top five fastest wagons on the afternoon.
The WPCA Pro Tour presented by GMC now moves into Ponoka for the Ponoka Stampede Championship starting on Wednesday, June 26, 2024. Day 1 of the Ponoka Stampede can be heard on WPCA Radio starting 7:30pm Mountain time on New Country 910.
