It was a perfect night of racing on night 2 of the Medicine Hat Exhibition & Stampede. The races ran under mainly sunny skies and 26°C. Racetrack conditions were excellent and some outstanding chuckwagon races were witnessed by a near capacity crowd. When the night wrapped up, and for the second consecutive night, it was Chanse Vigen who had the fast time of the night with a penalty free run of 1:01.32.

Coming off barrel number 2 in heat number 13, Vigen, driving the Volker Stevin Canada outfit won the day money by a large 1.13 second over reigning World Champion Layne MacGillivray and Mark Sutherland who split second and third on the night. Last week’s Dewberry Champion Chad Fike was fourth and former Medicine Hat Champion Evan Salmond rounded out the top 5 fastest times for the night.

Two first place runs in two days gives Chanse Vigen a commanding lead atop the overall aggregate standings with a two-day total time of 2:03.46. That puts him 1.42 seconds better than Evan Salmond. Layne MacGillivray sits in the very valuable third place overall with just one run left to try and earn a spot in Sunday’s Championship Final Heat. Mark Sutherland sits just 41 one-hundredths of a second outside the top three in fourth place overall with Obrey Motowylo in fifth place overall after two days, but 1.22 second out of a possible birth in Sunday’s Championship Final Heat.

Day 3 of the Medicine Hat Exhibition & Stampede can be heard live on Saturday,

June 24, 2023 on Real Country 910 starting at 7:00pm Mountain Time.
