Despite overnight rains, it was a warm and cloudy Saturday night, with excellent race track conditions for day 3 of the Bonnyville Chuckwagon Championship. It was the final night for the drivers to try and qualify for the championship final heat on Sunday afternoon. When the evening was complete, Chanse Vigen, Rae Croteau Jr., Luke Tournier and Layne MacGillivray will be the four drivers bidding for the 2024 Bonnyville Chuckwagon Championship and the George Normand Memorial Buckle.

A day money run vaulted Chanse Vigen to the top of the overall aggregate standings with a three-day combined time of 3:51.25, followed by Rae Croteau Jr. who moved up one spot into second place overall, 63 one-hundredths of a second behind the aggregate leader Vigen. Luke Tournier, who at the start of the day was on the outside looking in, jumped from fifth place overall into third, with Layne MacGillivray maintaining the fourth and final qualifying spot in Sunday’s final. Jason Glass, who was atop the aggregate standings at the start of the day, received a two-second penalty prior to the start of the races and ended up in the crying hole, placing fifth overall and missed the championship final heat by just 43 one-hundredths of a second. It was the first driver penalties Jason Glass has taken on the WPCA Pro Tour since the final day of the 2019 Ponoka Stampede.

As far as day results are concerned, and as mentioned previously, Chanse had the fast time of the night after posting a 1:16.31 from barrel 3 in the 5th heat. Vigen’s KUDO Energy Servies outfit won the day money by just 9 one-hundredths of a second over Rae Croteau Jr., with Darcy Flad placing third, Chance Bensmiller placing fourth and Kris Molle rounding out the top five on the night.

The finals of the Bonnyville Chuckwagon Championship can be heard Sunday afternoon, June 9, 2024 at 4:00pm Eastern, 3:00pm Central, and 2:00pm Mountain time on New Country 910.
