What a difference a day makes as night 2 of the Grande Prairie Stompede was much more pleasant on Thursday night. Racetrack conditions were great and some outstanding chuckwagon races were witnessed by a large Grande Prairie crowd. When the night wrapped up, it was Chad Fike who cashed the day money cheque after a penalty free run of 1:16.64.

Coming off barrel number 4 in heat number 9, Fike, driving the TOMCO Group of Companies outfit placed first overall for the day by a large 87 one-hundredths of a second over Jamie Laboucane, with Rae Croteau Jr. placing third, Jason Glass placing fourth, with Wade Salmond rounding out the top five on the night.

The day money run vaulted Chad Fike to the top of the overall aggregate standings with a two day total of 2:36.56. That puts him 93 one-hundredths of a seconds ahead of Jamie Laboucane who sits second, Jason Glass is third and Wade Salmond is holding down fourth place overall. Former Grande Prairie champion Rae Croteau Jr. sits fifth overall and is just 28 one-hundredths of a second out of fourth hole.

The top wagon in the aggregate after Saturday’s run will receive the Ralph Vigen Memorial Award and the use of a new GMC Truck for one year courtesy of Summit Fleet. The top 4 drivers in the aggregate after Saturday night will go into the championship final heat on Sunday where the winner will receive a big winner’s cheque and the 2024 Grande Prairie Stompede Championship.

Day three of the Grande Prairie Stompede can be heard live Friday night, on New Country 910 starting at 9:00pm Eastern, 8:00pm Central, 7:00pm Mountain Time.
