It was a spectacular conclusion to the long weekend as the 2026 Battle of the Foothills wrapped up under hot, sunny skies on Championship Sunday in High River. Temperatures climbed above 30°C, racetrack conditions were perfect, and another capacity crowd witnessed an exciting afternoon of chuckwagon racing. When the Championship Final was complete, Chad Fike, driving the TOMCO Group of Companies outfit, along with outriders Nolan Cameron and Wyatt Dyck, emerged as the 2026 Battle of the Foothills champions following a remarkable performance.
After vaulting from 16th place overall into Sunday’s Championship Final with a stunning run on Saturday night, Fike completed one of the biggest comebacks of the season. Starting from the outside barrel position number three, he captured the championship by an impressive 2.13-second margin over Chance Bensmiller, who finished second despite racing from the favored barrel position number one. Local favorite Jason Glass placed third in the Championship Final from barrel position number two, while two-time High River champion Luke Tournier finished fourth from barrel position number four.
On the night, Chanse Vigen, driving the Volker Stevin Canada outfit, earned the Kirk’s Trail Tire Wheels on Fire Fast Time of the Night with a blistering run of 1:13.82 from barrel position number three in the opening heat. Fike’s championship-winning run ranked as the second-fastest time of the evening, just 0.41 seconds behind Vigen. Obrey Motowylo recorded the third-fastest run, followed by Evan Salmond in fourth and Wade Salmond in fifth.
The WPCA Pro Tour now heads to Strathmore for the 2026 Strathmore Stampede Championship, beginning Friday, July 31. Day 1 can be heard live on WPCA Radio beginning at 8:00 p.m. ET, 7:00 p.m. CT, and 6:00 p.m. MT on 96.5 The Ranch.
