Despite some pre-race rain, it was another beautiful night in Strathmore as night two of the Strathmore Stampede was run under mostly sunny skies and a comfortable 25°C. Racetrack conditions were excellent and some fantastic chuckwagon races were witnessed by the capacity crowd. When the sun finally set, it was 2023 Dewberry World Chuckwagon Races Champion Chad Fike who grabbed the top time on the night with a penalty free run of 1:16.12.
From barrel position number 2 in the 7th heat, Fike, driving the Tim’s Glass outfit, posted the fast time of the night with a run of 1:16.12. Despite a one-second penalty, Chanse Vigen grabbed second place on the night exactly 1 tenths of a second behind the day money winner Chad Fike. Evan Salmond, Rae Croteau Jr. and Jason Glass rounded out the top five on the night. It’s the second night in a row that heat number 7 had produced the top time on the night.
The day money run vaulted Chad Fike to the top of the overall aggregate standings with a two-day combined time of 2:32.58. That’s puts him just 2 one-hundredths of a second in front of day 1 winner Ross Knight. Dayton Sutherland sits third overall, with Jamie Laboucane and Darcy Flad in close pursuit. The driver posting the best 4-day aggregate time after Monday afternoon’s run will be crowned the 2023 Strathmore Heritage Days Stampede champion.
Night 3 of Strathmore Stampede can be heard on Sunday, August 6, 2023 at 9:00pm ET, 8:00pm CT and 7:00pm MT on Real Country 910am. As well, fans can watch the races live on the watch.wpca.comstreaming platform.
