16-year-old Britton Irvine (Britt) was named the 2024 WPCA Top Rookie Outrider of the Year at the WPCA Awards Banquet on October 19th.  The young Bonnyville Outrider finished the 2024 season with 678 points. The Top Rookie Outrider Award is given to an Outrider who accumulates the most points compared to other eligible candidates. To be eligible, an Outrider must compete in at least 50 percent of the race days on the current year’s schedule.

Britt’s story to success started long before 2024. Born on August 20, 2008, Britt grew up in the sport and was connected to drivers and outriders he could learn from. Most notably his father Doug Irvine who has over 30 years of experience and success in the sport both as an outrider and driver. 3-time World Outriding Champion and current driver Chance Flad has also made a positive impact on Britt. Veteran outrider Rory Gervais has been seen in the infield encouraging the future star along with other members of the WPCA outriding fraternity.

Being born into wagon racing, the wait to compete likely felt like forever. With the minimum age to outride on the WPCA Pro Tour being fifteen, Britt’s goal got closer as each year passed. Finally, on August 20, 2023, the day Britt turned fifteen, he made his debut ride behind his father Doug on the third day of the Battle of the Rockies in Rocky Mountain House. He then rode the final 5 days of the 2023 race season at Century Downs before turning his focus and energy to the 2024 WPCA Pro Tour where in the end he would stand up on stage and be recognized as the 2024 WPCA Top Rookie Outrider of the Year.
