After a successful run at the Battle of the Foothills in High River, the WPCA Pro Tour embarked on Strathmore with the running of the Strathmore. Ross Knight came into this year’s event as the defending champion. It was a hot summer evening for a near capacity crowd, and when night one wrapped up it was last week’s champion Chanse Vigen who had the best time on the night after a penalty free run of 1:13.01.
Vigen, driving the Blackstone Drilling Fluids Ltd. Outfit, was the only driver to break the 1:14.00 mark and had the top time on the night by a large 1.01 second margin over Jason Glass who had to settle for second place on the night. Obrey Motowylo placed third, Kurt Bensmiller was fourth and Jamie Laboucane rounded out the top five on the night.
The top four drivers in the aggregate standings after Sunday night will go into the $25,000.00 Championship Final Heat on Monday afternoon. The winner of Monday’s final will be declared the champion of the 2024 Strathmore Stampede.
Day 2 the Strathmore Stampede can be heard on WPCA Radio starting 9:00pm Eastern, 8:00pm Central, and 7:00pm Mountain time on New Country 92.5 FM Drumheller, 93.3 FM Stettler, 105.7 FM Brooks, 94.9 FM Blairmore, 92.7 FM Pincher Creek, or streaming options are available through the wpca.com, iHeart Radio website/app or the Radioplayer Canada website/app. The Strathmore Stampede can also be watched live on the WPCA Livestream at watch.wpca.com.
