It was Semi Final Saturday at the 2023 Ponoka Stampede as eight drivers running in two heats were trying to survive the semi-final round and looking for a spot in Sunday’s $75,000.00 Tommy Dorchester Championship Final Heat.

When it all played out, aggregate winner Chanse Vigen, Evan Salmond, Layne MacGillivray and Kris Molle survived the semi-final round and will comprise the $75,000.00 Tommy Dorchester Championship final heat. Defending Ponoka Stampede Champion Ross Knight ended up in the crying hole and missed the winner-take-all final by just 11 one-hundredths of a second. Wade Salmond, Codey McCurrach and Jamie Laboucane also competed in Sunday night’s semi-final round.

On the day, Chanse Vigen’s incredible and history making run continued as he won his 5th day money in 5 days at the Ponoka Stampede, with a penalty free run of 1:16.47. From barrel number 1 in the seventh heat on the evening, Vigen, driving the Wentworth Oilfield Services Ltd. outfit was the fast man on the day by 92 one-hundredths of a second over Rae Croteau Jr. Third place belonged to Evan Salmond, with Layne MacGillivray and Kris Molle filling out the top five on the night.

The Finals of the Ponoka Stampede can be heard on Sunday night, July 2, 2023 on WPCA Radio starting 6:30pm Mountain time on Real Country 910am, and can be watched live on the watch.wpca.com streaming platform.
